Personal Support and Casework
Life can be complicated when you are new to a country or facing difficult challenges. Sometimes you need someone to help you figure things out. Our casework service is here for you. We provide free, confidential, one to one support for people seeking asylum, refugees, and New Scots in Glasgow.
One to one help when you need it most
A caseworker is a dedicated person who will listen to you. They will help you understand your rights and options. They will work with you to find solutions to the problems you are facing. Our approach is always person centred. This means we put you and your needs first. We will not tell you what to do. Instead, we give you the information and support you need to make your own choices. We believe everyone has the right to be safe, treated with dignity, and given the chance to build a good life, and our goal is to support you.
The kind of support we can offer
We start by listening. We will arrange a meeting with you to talk about what you need help with. This is called a needs assessment. It is just a conversation to help us understand your situation. From there, we will create a support plan with you. This plan will have clear steps to help you move forward.
We can help you with things like:
We can help if you have problems with your accommodation or if you are homeless. We can give you advice on your housing rights. We can also help you find and apply for suitable housing.
We can help you register with a GP or a dentist. We can explain how the NHS works and help you get the healthcare you need for yourself and your family.
We can help you find English language classes. We can give you information about going to college or finding training. We can also help you understand your right to work and look for jobs.
We can help you understand what financial support you might be able to get. This includes things like asylum support or other benefits. We can help with applications and challenge wrong decisions.
Sometimes it feels like your voice is not being heard. It can be difficult to deal with official organisations like the Home Office, your housing provider, or the council.
Advocacy means we can speak up for you. With your permission, our caseworkers can contact these organisations on your behalf. We can write letters, make phone calls, and attend meetings with you. We will make sure your rights are respected. We will challenge unfair treatment and bad decisions. Our caseworkers are here to make sure you are heard and treated fairly.
We can connect you to our own wellbeing projects. We can also refer you to other mental health services if you need more specialist support. We are here to listen without judgement.
If we cannot help with a problem ourselves, we will find someone who can. This is called signposting or making a referral. We have strong relationships with many other organisations in Glasgow. We will make sure you get to the right service for your needs.
